Exclusive: Kendrick Sampson talks Insecure Season 5 and Nathan's relationship with Issa

Currently airing on HBO is the fifth and final season of its acclaimed comedy series Insecure. The final episodes are debuting weekly on HBO and be available to stream on HBO Max.

Starring NAACP Image Award winner and six-time Emmy and Golden Globe Award nominee Issa Rae, the series continues to follow our favorite characters as they evaluate their relationships, both new and old, in an effort to figure out who and what comes with them in this next phase of their lives.

The fifth season also stars series regulars Yvonne Orji, Jay Ellis, Natasha Rothwell, Amanda Seales and Courtney Taylor.

Among the recurring characters on the show is Nathan, played by Kendrick Sampson. Throughout the last few season Nathan and Issa have had this off-on relationship that hasn’t been fully explored. In episode 2 of this season there was a breakthrough where Issa, having broken up with Lawrence, and Nathan, having opening up a barbershop and getting his mental bearing together, were finally getting to rekindle their relationship…that is until Issa somewhat hit a paused button and Nathan left.

While Insecure has given Sampson his biggest profile, he’s also starting to do other projects as well. In 2020, he appeared in the critically acclaimed film Miss Juneteenth opposite Nicole Beharie. He also collaborated with JusticeLA to create a public service announcement #SuingToSaveLives about the health of people in Los Angeles County Jails amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

In speaking with BlackFilmandTV.com’s Wilson Morales, Sampson goes over his character this season and what’s next after the series ends this year.
