Exclusive: Legendary songwriter Diane Warren on her Oscar nominated 'Four Good Days' song "Somehow You Do”
Very recently while out in LA for the Critics Choice Awards, I had a chance to visit and speak with legendary songwriter Diane Warren, who is Oscar nominated this year for the song “Somehow You Do” from the film “Four Good Days.” The song was performed by country legend Reba McEntire. With this being her 13th try, Warren is the most Academy Award-nominated woman of all time without a win.
Directed by Rodrigo García, the film stars Glenn Close, Mila Kunis, Stephen Root, Joshua Leonard, and Sam Hennings.
In an emotional journey based on a true story by Pulitzer Prize-winning Washington Post writer Eli Saslow, 31-year-old Molly begs her estranged mother Deb for help fighting a fierce battle against the demons that have derailed her life. Despite all she has learned over a decade of disappointment, grief and rage, Deb throws herself into one last attempt to save her beloved daughter from the deadly and merciless grip of heroin addiction. Powerhouse performances from Glenn Close and Mila Kunis anchor director Rodrigo García’s poignant and unpredictable chronicle of mother and daughter fighting to regain the love and trust that once held them together.
With iconic songs that include "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now" from 'Mannequin,' "Because You Loved Me" from 'Up Close and Personal,' "How Do I Live" from 'Con Air,' "I Don't Wanna Miss a Thing" from 'Armageddon' and "Til It Happens to You" from 'The Hunting Ground' among her songs that were Oscar nominated, Warren continues to produce hit after hit for over four decades.
Here’s my brief discussion with Ms. Warren as she talked about her 13th nomination and song “Somehow You Do.”
