Exclusive: Nicolas Cage talks The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent and which of his films was the most fun to make

Coming out this week in theaters from Lionsgate is The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, directed by Tom Gormican and starring Nicolas Cage, Pedro Pascal, Sharon Horgan, Ike Barinholtz, Alessandra Mastronardi, Jacob Scipio, Lily Sheen, with Neil Patrick Harris, and Tiffany Haddish.

Written by Tom Gormican & Kevin Etten, the film releases only in theaters on April 22nd, 2022.

Nicolas Cage stars as... Nick Cage in the action-comedy The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent. Creatively unfulfilled and facing financial ruin, the fictionalized version of Cage must accept a $1 million offer to attend the birthday of a dangerous superfan (Pedro Pascal). Things take a wildly unexpected turn when Cage is recruited by a CIA operative (Tiffany Haddish) and forced to live up to his own legend, channeling his most iconic and beloved on-screen characters in order to save himself and his loved ones. With a career built for this very moment, the seminal award-winning actor must take on the role of a lifetime: Nick Cage.

A Best Actor Oscar winner for Leaving Las Vegas, Nicolas Cage is one of the most incredible actors still working today. With nearly 40 years of acting credits that include Raising Arizona, Wild at Heart, Honeymoon in Vegas, Peggy Sue Got Married, The Rock, Con Air, Adaptation, National Treasure, and more recently Mandy, Prisoners of Ghostland and Pig, if there was ever a film where you’re starring as a fictionalize version of yourself, this would be it. There was a period where his films weren’t as well received as his previous hits, but all actors go through this phase. Cage is nothing left to prove. He’s done as many genres as he can and still continues to entertain. In speaking with Blackfilmandtv.com’s Wilson Morales, Cage talks about working with the director and screenwriter once he agreed to do it and which film gave the best character to play.
