Exclusive: Peter Dinklage Talks Cyrano and his favorite song from film
Hitting theaters everywhere on February 25th is Joe Wright’s musical film Cyrano, based on the stage musical adapted and directed by Erica Schmidt, from “Cyrano de Bergerac” by Edmond Rostand, with music by Aaron & Bryce Dessner and lyrics by Matt Berninger & Carin Besser.
The cast includes Peter Dinklage, Haley Bennett, Kelvin Harrison Jr., and Ben Mendelsohn.
Award-winning director Joe Wright envelops moviegoers in a symphony of emotions with music, romance, and beauty in Cyrano, re-imagining the timeless tale of a heartbreaking love triangle. A man ahead of his time, Cyrano de Bergerac (played by Peter Dinklage) dazzles whether with ferocious wordplay at a verbal joust or with brilliant swordplay in a duel. But, convinced that his appearance renders him unworthy of the love of a devoted friend, the luminous Roxanne (Haley Bennett), Cyrano has yet to declare his feelings for her — and Roxanne has fallen in love, at first sight, with Christian (Kelvin Harrison Jr.).
For Dinklage, who has done numerous films and is best known for his role as Tyrion Lannister on the HBO television series Game of Thrones, he is reprising the role he did on stage and gets to reunite with Bennett again. His notable film roles have included Elf, Find Me Guilty, Penelope, Underdog, Death at a Funeral, The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, X-Men: Days of Future Past, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, and Avengers: Infinity War.
In speaking with Blackfilmandtv.com’s Wilson Morales, Dinklage talks about the difference on playing Cyrano from stage to screen and what his favorite song from the film.
