Exclusive: Showrunner and Executive Producer Syreeta Singleton talks Season 2 of Rap Sh!t
Premiering on Nov. 9 is season two of the Max Original comedy RAP SH!T, executive produced by Issa Rae and showrunner Syreeta Singleton, as well as Montrel McKay for HOORAE, Jonathan Berry, and Dave Becky for 3 Arts Entertainment, and Jim Kleverweis. The eight-episode season will continue with one episode weekly, leading up to the season finale on Thursday, December 21.
RAP SH!T follows two estranged high school friends from Miami, Shawna and Mia, who reunite to form a rap group. In their rise to fame, Shawna and Mia find themselves at a pivotal moment in their rap career as they are forced to decide if they will stay true to themselves or conform to the demands of the music industry.
The cast includes Aida Osman (Shawna), KaMillion (Mia), Jonica Booth (Chastity), RJ Cyler (Lamont), and Daniel Augustin (Maurice). Jaboukie Young-White, Jean Elie, Kat Cunning, and Bobbi Baker are also returning in recurring roles. Jacob Romero, Kyle Bary, and Patrick Cage have joined the Season 2 cast.
Hip-hop duo Yung Miami and JT of City Girls serve as co-executive producers, along with Kevin “Coach K” Lee and Pierre “P” Thomas for Quality Control Films and Sara Diya Rastogi and Jax Clark for HOORAE. Rae’s audio content company Raedio handles music supervision for the series.
Born and raised in South Central, Syreeta Singleton is a writer on the verge of becoming a household name. Singleton has written on HBOMax’s hit comedy series Insecure, Showtime’s Black Monday, and Apple’s animated series Central Park. Most recently, Syreeta completed writing the buddy comedy JUNGLES for Columbia Studios, to which she is also executive producing; Keke Palmer is attached to star. Up next, she is writing a feature film remake of the hit movie SET IT OFF for New Line. She has been the showrunner and executive producer for seasons 1 and 2 of the HBOMax series, RAP SH!T, produced by HOORAE Productions.
