Exclusive: Trap interviews with director M. Night Shyamalan, Josh Hartnett, & Saleka Shyamalan
Hitting theaters on August 2 from Warner Bros. Pictures is a new experience in the world of director M. Night Shayamalan — a thriller titled Trap — featuring performances by rising music star Saleka Shyamalan. A father and teen daughter attend a pop concert, where they realize they're at the center of a dark and sinister event.
Josh Hartnett stars as a father who takes his daughter to a pop star concert. However, while there they discover that the concert is all a setup to catch a serial killer. But who is the killer? He is.
The cast also includes Ariel Donoghue, Saleka Shyamalan performing as Lady Raven, Hayley Mills, and Allison Pill.
The film is produced by Ashwin Rajan, Marc Bienstock and M. Night Shyamalan. The executive producer is Steven Schneider.
The original songs are written, produced and performed by Saleka Night Shyamalan. The music is by Herdĭs Stefănsdŏttir (“Knock at the Cabin”) and the music supervisor is Susan Jacobs (“Old”).
For M. Night, this is his 16th film after doing Praying with Anger, Wide Awake, The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable, Signs, The Village, Lady in the Water, The Happening, The Last Airbender, After Earth, The Visit, Split, Glass, Old, and Knock at the Cabin previously, as well as the TV series "Servant".
Most recently Hartnett portrayed Ernest Lawrence in the critically acclaimed Christopher Nolan film Oppenheimer. His additional film credits include Halloween: H20, The Faculty, The Virgin Suicides, Pearl Harbor, Black Hawk Down, Hollywood Homicide; 40 Days and 40 Nights; Blow Dry; Town and Country; Here on Earth; I Come with the Rain, directed by Tran Anh Jung (Scent of the Green Papaya); Bunraku; Singularity; Parts Per Billion; Wild Horses; 6 Below; Resurrecting the Champ; and Sony’s 30 Days of Night.
Besides making her film debut, Saleka contributed 14 songs to the film. She previously contributed seven original tunes to the Apple TV+ favorite Servant and “Remain” to the big screen blockbuster Old. Saleka has opened for acts like Boyz II Men, Baby Rose and Summer Walker. She is the eldest daughter of filmmaker M. Night Shyamalan. Her younger sister, Ishana Night Shyamalan made her directorial debut with the 2024 horror film The Watchers.
