Exclusive: Vanessa Kirby talks Ridley Scott's Napoleon and playing Empress Joséphine

Hitting theaters nationwide from November 22nd, 2023 from Apple Studios is Napoleon, directed by Ridley Scott and starring Oscar winner Joaquin Phoenix as the French emperor and military leader. Also featured in the film are Academy Award nominee Vanessa Kirby as Josephine, plus Ludivine Sagnier, Ben Miles, Tahar Rahim, Catherine Walker, Youssef Kerkour, Paul Rhys, and Matthew Needham.

Directed by the legendary filmmaker Ridley Scott, Napoleon stars Joaquin Phoenix as the French emperor and military leader. The film is an original and personal look at Napoleon's origins and his swift, ruthless climb to emperor, viewed through the prism of his addictive and often volatile relationship with his wife and one true love, Josephine, played by Vanessa Kirby. This past summer, Kirby appeared in Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One opposite Tom Cruise and reprising her role as Alanna Mitsopolis / White Widow from 2018’s Mission: Impossible – Fallout. The English actress is best known for her portrayal of Princess Margaret in the Netflix drama series The Crown (2016–2017), for which she won the British Academy Television Award for Best Supporting Actress. Her notable film credits include Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw, The World to Come, and Pieces of a Woman, for which she received a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Actress.
