Exclusive: Writer-Director Charlie Kaufman On Adapting ‘I'm Thinking of Ending Things’
Coming out this week on Netflix is the psychological horror film I’m Thinking Of Ending Things, directed and written by Academy Award winner Charlie Kaufman (ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND) and inspired by Iain Reid's bestselling namesake novel.
Despite second thoughts about their relationship, a young woman (Jessie Buckley) takes a road trip with her new boyfriend (Jesse Plemons) to his family farm. Trapped at the farm during a snowstorm with Jake’s mother (Toni Collette) and father (David Thewlis), the young woman begins to question the nature of everything she knew or understood about her boyfriend, herself, and the world.
An Academy Award winner for writing Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, ‘Ending Things’ is Kaufman’s third directorial film. His other films were Synecdoche, New York and Anomalisa. Including his scripts for Being John Malkovich, Adaptation and Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, the plot usually revolves around one person trying to find the meaning of their existence.
