Exclusive: Zoey Deutch on starring and producing Not Okay

Currently playing on Hulu is the comedy drama Not Okay, directed by Quinn Shepard and starring Zoey Deutch, Dylan O'Brien, Mia Isaac, Embeth Davidtz, Nadia Alexander, Tia Dionne Hodge, Negin Farsad, Karan Soni, and Dash Perry.

Danni Sanders (Zoey Deutch), an aimless aspiring writer with no friends, no romantic prospects and — worst of all — no followers, fakes an Instagram-friendly trip to Paris in the hopes of boosting her social media clout. When a terrifying incident strikes the City of Lights, Danni unwittingly falls into a lie bigger than she ever imagined. She "returns" a hero, even striking up an unlikely friendship with Rowan (Mia Isaac), a real trauma survivor dedicated to societal change, and scooping up the man of her dreams Colin (Dylan O'Brien). As an influencer and advocate, Danni finally has the life and audience she always wanted. But it’s only a matter of time before the facade cracks, and she learns the hard way that the Internet loves a takedown.

For Deutch, not only is she starring in the film, but she’s onboard as one of the producers of the film and gets to reunite with Dylan O’Brien. Earlier this year, the two had co-starred in the crime drama The Outfit with Mark Rylance. Among her film and TV credits include Beautiful Creatures, Richard Linklater's Everybody Wants Some!!, Vincent N Roxxy, The Year of Spectacular Men, Set It Up, Buffaloed, which she also produced, The Politician, and Zombieland: Double Tap.

Blackfilmandtv.com’s Wilson Morales caught up with Deutch as she spoke about her role, the impact of social media, and reuniting with Dylan O’Brien.
