The Beanie Bubble interviews with Zach Galifianakis, Elizabeth Banks, & directors Kristin Gore and Damian Kulash, Jr.
Now playing in select theaters since July 21 and airing globally on Apple TV+ on July 28, 2023 is the comedy-drama film The Beanie Bubble, directed by Kristin Gore and Damian Kulash, Jr. and starring Zach Galifianakis, Elizabeth Banks, Sarah Snook, Geraldine Viswanathan, Tracey Bonner, and Carl Clemons-Hopkins.
Why did the world suddenly treat stuffed animals like gold? Ty Warner (Galifianakis) was a frustrated toy salesman until his collaboration with three women grew his masterstroke of an idea into the biggest toy craze in history. The Beanie Bubble is an inventive story about what and who we value, and the unsung heroes whose names didn't appear on the heart-shaped tag.
Based on the 2015 book The Great Beanie Baby Bubble: Mass Delusion and the Dark Side of Cute by Zac Bissonnette about the Beanie Babies bubble, the film was written by Gore. Producing the film were Imagine Entertainment’s Brian Grazer, Ron Howard and Imagine Features president Karen Lunder.
Best known for his role in The Hangover trilogy, Galifianakis’ other film credits include Due Date, The Campaign, Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance), The Lego Batman Movie, A Wrinkle in Time, and Ron's Gone Wrong. On TV, he was the co-creator, writer and executive producer of the FX series Baskets.
Banks, who’s done a lot in front and behind the camera, recently starred opposite Sigourney Weaver in the Sundance drama Call Jane. Other notable acting credits for her include The Hunger Games franchise, The Pitch Perfect franchise, The LEGO Movie, The Happytime Murders, Charlie's Angels, and Mrs. America. She recently directed the horror comedy Cocaine Bear.
Kristin Gore and Damian Kulash, Jr are making their feature directorial debut with this film. Gore was previously a screenwriter on Futurama, War Story, and Accidental Love. She is also the second daughter of former U.S. vice president Al Gore and Tipper Gore. Damian Kulash Jr is best known for being the lead singer and guitarist of the American rock band OK Go.
