Black Voices Featured 2025 Sundance Film Festival - Short Film Program Announcement

Today the nonprofit Sundance Institute announced the 57 short films being presented at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival. These shorts will screen as part of eight curated Short Film Programs presented by Vimeo that will include fiction, nonfiction, and animated titles from the U.S. and globally.

The Festival will take place from January 23–February 2, 2025, in person in Park City and Salt Lake City, Utah, with a selection of titles available online from January 30–February 2, 2025, for audiences across the country to discover bold independent storytelling. Single Film Tickets for in-person and online go on sale January 16 at 10 a.m. MT. Members have access to a Single Film Ticket pre-sale. The 57 short films selected for the 2025 Sundance Film Festival were chosen from 11,153 submissions. Of these submissions, 4,909 were from the U.S. and 6,244 were international. Work from 28 countries and territories represented in this upcoming year’s program.

The Sundance Film Festival has long been a platform for innovative short-form projects spanning genres from global filmmakers. Alums of the program include: Andrea Arnold, Lake Bell, Damien Chazelle, Destin Daniel Cretton, Jay Duplass, Mark Duplass, Debra Granik, Rashaad Ernesto Green, Reinaldo Marcus Green, Sterlin Harjo, Todd Haynes, Nikyatu Jusu, Shaka King, Lynne Ramsay, Dee Rees, Charlotte Regan, A.V. Rockwell, RaMell Ross, Joey Soloway, Taika Waititi, and many others.

SHORTS:

  • An Almost Successful Dating App Love Story - Determined to meet him dead or alive, a curious young woman attends the funeral of a man she matched with on a dating app. Cast: Olivia Washington, Caleb Hearon, Derrick King, Caitlin Reilly

  • B(l)ind the Sacrifice - A nomadic family wanders the land under the father’s leadership. One day, the men ascend a mountain to make a sacrifice. But today, things are different, which alters the family forever. Cast: Sihle Mnqwazana, Nandi Nyembe, Treasure Nkosi

  • Entre Le Feu Et Le Clair De Lune -  An Ivorian father and his daughter set out to continue the book he never finished about a war he experienced as a child. With children in his village today, three generations create timelines, dreams, and memories.

  • Hold Me Close - A chronicle of the power and complexity of the relationship between Corinne and Tiana, two Queer Black womxn who experience cycles of life's joys and pains together in the home they share.

  • Hoops, Hopes & Dreams -  The untold story about how Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and an all-star team of civil rights activists took to basketball courts to rally young voters while winning hearts of communities, and how their strategy has echoed in contemporary politics. 

  • THE LILY (เดอะลิลลี่) - Two Muay Thai fighters who were once childhood friends come together for a final fight, which serves as a brutal resolution to their difficult familial bond torn apart by the hatred of their fathers. Cast: May Petchompoo, Quintessa Swindell, Sekou Laidlow
