Fandango Selling Tickets For Advance Screenings Of Aretha Franklin Biopic ‘Respect’

Fandango, the leading digital network for all things movies, is teaming up with United Artists Releasing to present exclusive Fandango Premiere Early Access Screenings on August 8 for MGM’s highly anticipated film “Respect,” starring Academy Award®-winning actress Jennifer Hudson as Aretha Franklin and directed by award-winning theater director Liesl Tommy from a story by Callie Khouri and Tracey Scott Wilson and screenplay by Tracey Scott Wilson. Tickets for this limited big screen event are now on sale, only at Fandango.

Playing at 500 theaters nationwide, the Fandango Premiere Screenings will give fans the first look at “Respect,” nearly one week before its August 13 wide release date. Fans will also be treated to an exclusive Rotten Tomatoes Original Pre-Show program titled “Becoming: Aretha,” featuring an interview with Jennifer Hudson on portraying the legendary artist.

"We are thrilled to team up with United Artists Releasing to give fans early access to see ‘Respect,’ what is sure to be one of the most talked-about movies of the year,” says Lori Pantel, Fandango Chief Marketing Officer. “With our Fandango Premiere Screenings, we will be generating buzz and excitement across our expansive digital network, raising the film’s visibility leading into to opening weekend.”

“According to our latest Fandango survey, fans think ‘Respect’ demands to be seen with an audience of fellow movie and music lovers, and we’re excited to help usher them to that big screen experience,” Pantel adds.

Fandango surveyed more than 2,000 summer moviegoers, and among those planning to see “Respect” on the big screen:

  • 90% feel that “Respect” needs to be experienced in a movie theater with a receptive audience.

  • The fanship among surveyed moviegoers is strong: 96% are Aretha Franklin fans, and 94% are Jennifer Hudson fans.

  • The demand to see it first is palpable, with over 8 out of 10 users surveyed planning to see the movie at the very earliest screening opportunity.

Launched in February 2019, the Fandango Premiere Screenings program underscores the company’s ongoing dedication to working with studios and exhibitors to deliver exclusive, unparalleled moviegoing experiences for fans.
