Issa Rae To Be Honored At 20th Anniversary Reel Works Benefit Gala
Today, Reel Works announced that author, actress, writer and producer Issa Rae (“Insecure”) will be honored at their 20th Anniversary Reel Works Benefit Gala. The awards ceremony will honor the change makers whose accomplishments make it possible for our young emerging filmmakers to envision a future where their stories matter and their voices are heard. The annual event will be held live and virtually on Wednesday, May 26.
Honorees will be joined by host Broadway and Hollywood actor Bryan Terrell Clark (“Hamilton”) for the night to raise money for the non-profit organization, a NY based youth media and workforce readiness program that trains and mentors a diverse group of BIPOC early career professionals with professional filmmaker-mentors. As a leader and innovator in training the storytellers of tomorrow, Reel Works celebrates the brilliant, diverse individuals who are changing the face of entertainment and media today.
The Reel Works Benefit Gala raises vital funds for the organization’s year-round running costs, as well as subsidizing key programs and internships for students. This year marks their 20th anniversary and their organization has now pivoted during the pandemic to go virtually for the first time ever. They are able to train and mentor a diverse group of BIPOC early career professionals all over the country. Previous honorees include Ryan Coogler, Danai Gurira, Gabourey Sidibe, Hasan Minhaj, Ruth E. Carter, James F. Lopez, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Phoebe Robinson, Manish Dayal, Jeffrey Wright, Morgan Spurlock, Mira Nair, Emily Mortimer, Fisher Stevens and more.
