Miami Film Festival 2023 Preview - Elizabeth Ayiku’s Me Little Me
Playing at the 40th Miami Film Festival on Saturday, March 11 is Me Little Me, written and directed by Elizabeth Ayiku.
Me Little Me is a Narrative feature film about Mya, a young Black woman who is fiercely pursuing a promotion at work while also attending an intensive out-patient treatment program for eating disorder recovery.
While in the early stages of recovery from an eating disorder, Mya finds herself especially alone. As though balancing her mental health and relationships wasn’t hard enough, tension rises when she’s promoted in her male-dominant industry with demanding expectations and delinquent coworkers. Stress rises to an all-time high, and cold reminders of her past begin knocking to find their way in while she struggles to find day-to-day happiness. Together, obstacles culminate until everything comes tumbling down.
The cast includes A'Keyah Dasia Williams, Shamar Philippe, Tamir Elbassir, Niki J. Crawford, Frania Dueñas, Mariel Flores, Kristian Flores, Clark Moore, ReSheda Terry, and Marti Maley.
Says director Elizabeth Ayiku, "I call Me Little Me a feature length 'prequel' to my short film Little Elizabeth; which is about a woman who takes a compassionate journey in order to heal herself" In 2017 Little Elizabeth screened at multiple film festivals and was ultimately chosen as the winner of Art With Impact's Feb '18 film competition for mental health awareness.
