Yara Shahidi To Play Tinker Bell in Disney’s Live-Action ‘Peter Pan’ Film
Deadline is reporting that Grown-ish star Yara Shahidi has been tapped to play Tinker Bell in the upcoming Peter Pan live-action adaptation Peter Pan & Wendy.
The 20-year-old actress joins a cast that includes Jude Law as the notorious Captain Hook and newcomers Alexander Molony and Ever Anderson. Peter Pan & Wendy will be directed by David Lowery (Pete’s Dragon, The Green Knight) with Toby Halbrooks having co-written the adaptation with Lowery.
First published in 1911, Peter Pan & Wendy tells the story of the boy who never grows up named Peter Pan as he meets Wendy Darling and takes her along with her brothers John and Michael to the magical island of Neverland. There, they get to meet the Lost Boys and Tinkerbell, followed by many dangerous adventures against Peter’s lifelong nemesis Captain Hook.
Sources say the release is expected to be theatrical and not go the Disney+ streaming route.
Shahidi is best known for her role on the ABC sitcom Black-ish as Anthony Anderson and Tracee Ellis Ross’ daughter Zoey. Her character became so much a fan favorite that she was given the spinoff series Grown-ish, which chronicles Zoey’s college years. On the film side, she recently starred in the YA adaptation of The Sun Is Also a Star opposite Charles Melton.
