ABC Puts In Development ‘old-ish',’ Fourth ‘ish’ Series From Kenya Barris
Variety is reporting that ABC is developing a fourth ‘ish’ series from creator/ producer Kenya Barris . The show ‘old-ish’ would star Laurence Fishburne and Jenifer Lewis, who play Earl “Pops” Johnson and Ruby Johnson respectively. Fishburne has recurred on the show since its first season and Lewis moved from recurring to a main cast member in the second season.
The project would Ruby and Earl as they give love a second chance. When they move to a rapidly gentrifying neighborhood of Los Angeles, they’ll meet characters who represent the old and new faces of the community as they try to make it work as a married couple again.
Barris will write the script and executive produce with Fishburne, Anthony Anderson and E. Brian Dobbins. Lewis would be a producer. The project is set out of ABC Signature, Fishburne and Helen Sugland's Cinema Gypsy and Barris' Khalabo Ink Society.
Along with “Black-ish,” ABC also currently airs the comedy series “Mixed-ish,” which tells the story of Tracee Ellis Ross’ character, Rainbow Johnson, as a child. Freeform currently airs the spinoff series “Grown-ish,” which focuses on Yara Shahidi’s character, Zoey, as she goes to college.
