Skye Townsend Joins ‘The Neighborhood’ For Season 6
Deadline reports that Skye Townsend (Black Lady Sketch Show) has joined the cast of the CBS comedy The Neighborhood for Season 6 in a recurring role. The show returns with new episodes on February 12.
Townsend’s character Courtney is loosely based on Sarah Francis Jones, girlfriend of The Neighborhood star Marcel Spears, and her real-life experience going into labor at a Beyoncé Renaissance concert.
Courtney is described as very smart—she entered MIT at 16 and worked at JPL before 21— very cool, very outgoing and with a great sense of humor. She worked with Marty (Spears) at JPL and he’s recently hired her as an electrical engineer at The Fuse Box. A few months back, they hooked up and now Courtney is pregnant. She’s very upfront about the fact that she likes Marty, but she won’t marry him.
Additionally, Kevin Pollak will also return in Season 6 as Dave Johnson’s (Max Greenfield) father. After reconnecting with his son following decades of abandonment, Lamar is eager to reintroduce himself into his son’s (and now, his son’s family’s) life.
Dave and Gemma (Beth Behrs) slowly warm to the idea of Lamar being a bigger part of their lives, but are also hesitant to leave Grandad alone with Grover (Hank Greenspan), given his former criminal past. Even though Lamar assures them his thieving days are behind him, he winds up on the hook for stealing some important father-son moments from Dave.
From creator Jim Reynolds, The Neighborhood follows a white Midwestern family adjusting to moving into a predominantly African American neighborhood in Pasadena, California. Cedric the Entertainer, Tichina Arnold, Marcel Spears, Sheaun McKinney, Max Greenfield, and Beth Behrs star. The comedy was renewed for a sixth season in January.
Townsend is best known as one of the stars of the Emmy-winning HBO variety series A Black Lady Sketch Show. She was recently seen starring in the OWN movie A Christmas Serenade and earlier this year was featured in the MTV film Pretty Stoned. Additional credits also include Christmas Party Crashers for BET+, iCarly on Paramount+, and Netflix’s Lucifer.
